Costume Design

We learn to tell the story of the character through the subtle details...a hole in the shoe, a polished old brass buckle, a dress created entirely of flowers…who are they?

It all begins with research, as we delve into the character’s past, present, and future, looking at the text and filling in the details with our imagination. No stone is left unturned. What era is this taking place? What class/group does this character most fit into? What do they aspire to appear like? How does their clothing reflect their inner lives? How does their clothing cover up their inner lives? In other words…What is the subtext within the costume?
